“Dharti Tumhari, Dharti Hamari” is a Hindi adaptation of “This Land is Your Land” written in 1940 by American singer Woody Guthrie (1912-67). The song has been sung by Deepak Castelino in memory of activist Father Stan Swamy, photographer Danish Siddiqui, historian Hari Vasudevan, hundreds of thousands of ordinary citizens whose deaths on account of Covid left India’s rulers unmoved, and in solidarity with protesting farmers. Produced by Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, the music video is a documentary on the times we are living in.
