The brazen way in which election processes were subverted in West Bengal is unprecedented. The case of how votes were counted in a particular booth in Kolkata’s New Town in Rajarhat is illustrative in this context. The actions and decisions of several authorities, including the Election Commission of India and the Supreme Court of India, went against the values enshrined in the country’s Constitution. What followed the elections in the state forbodes ill for the future of federalism in the country. These are some of the views expressed by senior journalist Indradeep Bhattacharya of AltNews in a conversation with Paranjoy Guha Thakurta.
