The unprecedented way in which the Election Commission of India has been conducting the elections to the West Bengal legislative assembly, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter roll, may backfire on the ruling dispensation in New Delhi led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and help the Trinamool Congress led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee remain in power despite anti-incumbency sentiment against the state government that has been in power for 15 years.
