Essential Commodities Act Should Have Been Amended After Consultations

The Union government should have had direct consultations with stakeholders before amending the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, which has been kept in abeyance by the Supreme Court. This would have allayed the apprehensions of agitating farmers, says Ashish Bahuguna, former Secretary, Agriculture and chairman, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, in an interview with NewsClick.
