Friday's announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Guru Nanak's birth anniversary that the three "black" farm laws would be repealed in the forthcoming winter session of parliament, and his apology to the nation, marks a major victory for India's farmers who have been agitating peacefully for almost a year. Despite attempts to malign the movement by supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the government had to give in, says Sukhdarshan Singh Natt of the Punjab Kisan Union in an interview with Paranjoy Guha Thakurta at the Tikri Border in Delhi.
