The Bharatiya Janata Party does not really understand the sub-national Bengali pride and cultural identity in the state of West Bengal. This state is different from other states like Assam and Bihar in that a large section of Hindus in West Bengal are not part of the vote bank of the BJP, which party has also failed to capitalize on the anti-incumbency sentiments that are prevailing against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the party she leads, the Trinamool Congress. The way the Election Commission of India has been functioning, it seems an undeclared President's Rule has been declared in the state. These are some of the views expressed by author and journalist Sayantan Ghosh in an exclusive interview with Paranjoy Guha Thakurta.
