Can National Monetisation Pipeline Help India’s Drowning Economy?

The Narendra Modi government on August 23 announced that it will monetise assets worth Rs 6,00,000 crore between 2021 and 25 under the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) scheme. Launched by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the scheme intends to fund fresh capital expenditure on infrastructure. Senior journalist Paranjoy Guha Thakurta says the NMP will either not work or could make the condition of India’s drowning economy worse.
